Some thougts on movies current and upcoming

I saw the movie Taken, this weekend and although it was a predictable action flick I really enjoyed it. Liam Neeson was great in the movie and the action scenes were really well done. Not an award movie but some mindless entertainment at its best. My theatre was in a bit of a rut, not getting any good movies but recently we've been getting some better fare. Frost/Nixon was great, Gran Torino was amazing, This coming Friday We'll be getting Slumdog Millionaire which I'm very excited to see. The films that we should have got at my theatre but we didn't include Revolutionary Road, The Wrestler and The Wrestler. It's tough getting these indie/art films, when we do get them its weeks after their initial release. We try to get our company to get them to us when they come out but for whatever reason they do not listen to us or its just not something they can do. But it gets frustrating when they ask us what we can do to increase business and our answer is to get us these good movies, and then we get them but weeks later.

Anways if anyone has seen these movies I'd love to hear what you thought or have anything you want to ask or say please comment.

I've seen SLUMDOG, and would recommend it highly. I was very pleasantly surprised to recognize a Bollywood star whose clips make a quick cameo....we saw him in SHILOH (1975) in the Global Cinema class.... I haven't seen ANY of the foreign-language Oscar nominees yet--usually it TAKES a nomination to get halfway decent distribution, and even then outside of Cambridge you might be S.O.L.

Thank you, I can't wait to see it. Its a sad truth how these great films cannot get distribution right away and when they do you have to go into the city to see them. Theaters should be more accepting of these smaller films and unfortunately my theater is no exception.

"Slumdog Millionaire" is probably one of my favorite movies of the year and I totally think this is Best Picture Winner. It's nice to see a film that is filmed outside the US and shows Indian culture, meanwhile allowing itself to be mainstream enough for international audiences. This film is unique and wonderful and definetly recommend it.

"The Wrestler" was another great movie. Mickey Rourke lays everything on the table for this movie and truly exhibits his past through this role. The movie itself is good, but without Rourke and Tomei, the movie might be subpar.

I am dying to see The Wrestler. I've seen a good hour of Slumdog at work and cannot wait to see the rest of it. The Wrestler is one movie that I;m surprised did not get a best picture nomination.
