working in a movie theatre

So, i work as an assistant manager at a movie theatre. I used to love this job because its decent pay and you can watch all the free movies you want. Now that i've been working here for 5 years (im working right now while i write this) the perk of seeing movies for free does not make the job seem worth it anymore. One, i work so often that i don't often feel like coming in on my day off to see a movie. Two, we get the mainstream studio movies, but we don't get much of the independent movies or foreign movies. Just last Friday we received 21 and superhero movie but we did not get Stop Loss or Run Fat Boy Run (both movies i wanted to see). This happens a lot and i usually end up paying for a lot of the movies i want to see (either at Dedham community theatre, Kendall theatre in cambridge or even my competition Showcase cinemas in Randolph). I don't really know what the point of this blog was, it was just something i was thinking about.

Jericho is now history (some spoilers do not read if you plan to watch)

This is a little delayed, but Jericho, a CBS show that was pretty awesome is now canceled. It's really disappointing becuase the first season was amazing and this second season only had 7 episodes but still managed to tell a great story. What really sucks is the series finale, it was an enjoyable episode but the show wasn't ready to end so they had to squeeze a lot into one episode to finish the story.

They did leave some sub plots open (there has been some talk about this show being picked up on cable). I really hope it comes back becuase the third season would be pretty interesting. In the first season there are several nuclear explosions in many major cities in the US. Throughout the first season the basic plot is Jericho, a small town in Kansas, trying to survive in a hellish situation. THe 1st season concludes with a battle between Jericho and a neighbor town who is tyring to steal goods from Jericho. The second season opens with the new Cheyenne government trying to get the country back on its feet. The army for this new government come to Jericho and break up the battle between Jericho and the other town and quickly power is restored and goods are brought in.

This governemnt seems to be great, until a conspiracy unfolds and you realize they were basically behind the attacks. Now theirs the Cheyenne government, the original US government , and Texas making up its own government. Theres going to be a civil war, and which ever side Texas falls on will win the war, and they're leaning on Cheyenne's side. Theres more to it and I'm leaving a lot out and generalizing the plot but that is just so I can explain what the third season would be like if it were to be brought back.

Basically the series finale finds its two main characters driving to cheyenne breaking into the texas embassy to share the evidence(which is a left over nuclear bomb) they have that will incriminate the new government. They then get it to Texas and it ends with the notion that Texas will back the original US government and the second American Civil War will begin.

Personally i hope a cable station renews this series because that set up seems really interesting and I would love to see what happens to the characters I've grown to care alot about.

hulu.com

I just heard about this new website, i dont if any of you have but its hulu.com and you can watch free TV shows and movies on it. It's ad supported but very limited, you have to watch about a minute of ads 15 sec ads in the beginning and end and a 30 sec ad in the middle. As of right now most of the shows are from NBC and FOX but they are hoping to make deals with the other networks as well, there is a deal in place with the sports networks so that content could become available soon. If Hulu does not have a show you want to watch chances are they will provide you with a link to a site that does offer it. It's pretty cool that they are offering this for free, i will most likely be a frequent hulu user.

movies ive seen recently

First things first, one of the best movies I've seen recently is In Bruges. It was really entertaining and hysterical. Colin Farrell, Ralph Fiennes, and Brendan Gleeson are all really good in this movie. These actors all have incredible chemistry together and it's a joy to watch them work together. The movie involves Farrel and Gleeson, who are hitmen, who need to leave London because of a botched assassination. They go to Bruges on the orders of their boss played by Fiennes. What follows is funny and sometimes sad but always enjoyable.

Two of the worst movies I've seen recently were 10,000 BC and Funny Games. 10,000 BC is a mindless action movie that should have entertained, instead it was a horribly boring mindless action movie with some really lame special effects. Funny Games seemed like it would be interesting but it turned out to be pretty boring. It is about a family who is held captive by two young psychos and forced to play "funny games" which turn out to be deadly. The story is interesting and the acting is terrific from everybody but the end result just seems pointless.

The best movie I've seen recenly however would have to be the Bank Job with Jason Statham. What seemed like would be a mindless comedic heist movie ended up being a complex and very serious heist movie that involved the British Government and some pretty sleazy scum bags.

I strongly urge everybody to see In Bruges and The Bank Job and to avoid 10,000 BC and Funny Games

Jericho

Any of you watch this show. it's amazing, check out CBS.com and you can watch full episodes from last season and this season. If you like it e-mail CBS and persuade them to renew it. The numbers for the show are weak but it is a truly gifted show and should continue to air.

oscar results

I've been busy and didn't even get a chance to discuss the oscars. Well, i thought the show was great i dont know what everyone else is talking about. Unfortunately the numbers were down but, what are you going to do. The academy honors films that are truly amazing and they cannot help it if the general public does not get this. Many people dont watch the oscars because they do not like the movies nominated (or have never heard of them). There has been talk about how the academy can get viewership up, but i say leave the show alone, those of us who do appreciate what they do will continue watching(I rearranged my work schedule to watch it). Let me know what you think. I was glad to see most of my predictions were correct, but hopefully i will do better next year.
